Portable Career Education for Military, Military Spouses, Veterans


As a physician in the US Army, there is no doubt that education pays off. I believe everyone has the potential to become anything they set their mind to. It’s never too late or early to start or change career paths. The key is to find something you can be passionate about and find joy working in.

Furthering your education is not easy. It takes time and sacrifice. Our society will only pay you what it thinks you are worth, and your worth will increase as you gain education and proficiency in your chosen field. Whether it be working in IT, or in a medical field, you must train yourselves.

The Job market is constantly changing. Today, jobs are needed in healthcare, technology, security, etc. The great thing is, you can earn a Certificate in 6 months or an Associate’s degree in 24 months in all of these fields and many others.
5 Portable Careers You Could Consider
  • Medical Billing and Coding:  As a medical biller and coder, you will be in charge of the processing of patient data such as treatment records and relevant insurance information. They are also required to code patient’s diagnosis along with requesting payments from the patient’s  insurance company.
  • Medical Equipment Preparer: Professionals within this career are responsible for the preparation, sterilization, installation or cleaning of laboratory or healthcare equipment. Medical equipment preparers may be required to perform routine tasks and operate or inspect equipment.
  • Pharmacy Technician: Pharmacy Technicians work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to dispense medication and provide information to customers. They typically work behind the pharmacy counter in a grocery store, drugstore, nursing home, hospital or other medical facility.
  • Bookkeeping: Bookkeepers are responsible for the recording, storing, and retrieving of an organization’s financial transactions. Bookkeepers are familiar with accounting software such as Quickbooks, which is widely used by a number of businesses across the US.
  • Project Manager: As a project manager, you are responsible for the planning, execution and completion of any project. Project managers work in a variety of fields such as, architecture, computer networking, aerospace and defence, construction, software development or telecommunications.
