To find a location near you or learn more about 'Military Appreciation Night', click here

Q: Who is eligible for the free "thank you" dinner?
A: Any person who has served in the US Military (retirees, veterans, active duty, National Guard or Reserves).
Q: Can I bring my family?
A: We know that spouses, children, mothers and fathers deserve a heart-felt thank you, too, for their own personal sacrifices here at home. Family and friends are welcome to come join the celebration for our military heroes; however, the free 'thank you' dinner is for the person who served. Other guests will pay the regular dinner menu pricing.
Q: Can I have a rain check for another night?
A: There are no rain checks for November 11. We hope you can arrange your schedule to join us.
Q: Can I have my free "thank you" meal as a take-out meal?
A: There are no take-out meals associated with this dinner as most veterans feel that this is a great opportunity to renew old friendships, make new friends, and simply enjoy the evening as Golden Corral's special guest.

Portable Career Education for Military, Military Spouses, Veterans

As a physician in the US Army, there is no doubt that education pays off. I believe everyone has the potential to become anything they set their mind to. It’s never too late or early to start or change career paths. The key is to find something you can be passionate about and find joy working in.

Furthering your education is not easy. It takes time and sacrifice. Our society will only pay you what it thinks you are worth, and your worth will increase as you gain education and proficiency in your chosen field. Whether it be working in IT, or in a medical field, you must train yourselves.

The Job market is constantly changing. Today, jobs are needed in healthcare, technology, security, etc. The great thing is, you can earn a Certificate in 6 months or an Associate’s degree in 24 months in all of these fields and many others.
5 Portable Careers You Could Consider
      • Medical Billing and Coding:  As a medical biller and coder, you will be in charge of the processing of patient data such as treatment records and relevant insurance information. They are also required to code patient’s diagnosis along with requesting payments from the patient’s  insurance company.
      • Medical Equipment Preparer: Professionals within this career are responsible for the preparation, sterilization, installation or cleaning of laboratory or healthcare equipment. Medical equipment preparers may be required to perform routine tasks and operate or inspect equipment.
      • Pharmacy Technician: Pharmacy Technicians work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to dispense medication and provide information to customers. They typically work behind the pharmacy counter in a grocery store, drugstore, nursing home, hospital or other medical facility.
      • Bookkeeping: Bookkeepers are responsible for the recording, storing, and retrieving of an organization’s financial transactions. Bookkeepers are familiar with accounting software such as Quickbooks, which is widely used by a number of businesses across the US.
      • Project Manager: As a project manager, you are responsible for the planning, execution and completion of any project. Project managers work in a variety of fields such as, architecture, computer networking, aerospace and defence, construction, software development or telecommunications.

Truck Rental - Military Discount (Budget, Penske, U-Haul, etc)

When Military Personnel have to make a PCS (Permanent Change of Station) they have two main options for moving all their household goods to their new location.

      1. Have the government do it. They will hire a commercial contractor to pack and move everything. This is the stress free method. They do this at completely no cost to the military member as long as they stay within their "authorized weight limit" (example E-6=11,000 lbs or 0-3=14,500 lbs)
      2. Do it your self. The 'Personally Procured Move Program' allows military members to do it themselves. They can receive 95-100% of the Government Contracted Cost (GCC). This is usually the 'financially savy' or 'no one touches my stuff but me' method
Because Military members often like to do it themselves I thought it would be a good idea to compare all the moving truck rental companies and compare their Military Discounts.

Sam's Club Membership for $15 (New Members and Renewals)

This is the best discount that i've ever seen published for Military Members. A standard Sam's Club membship costs $45. Military Members normally get a $15 gift card with new memberships or renewals.

For the entire month of July (July 1- July 31) you get a $15 gift card AND $15 worth of food (Sliced Turkey, Cookies, and Rolls). The cost of membership is normally $45 so this brings the cost of membership down to around $15.

Qualifications are: "current/past member of the US Armed Forces regular component, reserve component or National Guard, and that served on active military duty outside of Arizona in support of a worldwide contingency operation of the US Armed forces."

My Investment Strategy as an Active Duty Military Member

I am only 28 but I am already thinking about retirement. Why?? Because I want to retire comfortably, I want to be able to travel and take my kids and grand-kids on cruises. In order to do this I need to have a plan. A big part of my plan is taking advantage of Roth Investments which will allow me to take out my money tax free. If I invest 1 million dollars over my lifetime and it grows to 3 million dollars, it means I get to keep every cent of the 3 million dollars. I don't have to pay anything to taxes.

Most people can contribute to a Roth-IRA. There are some exclusions like if you make too much money. You can contribute up to $5,500 dollars per year. When you hit 60 years old and retire you get to withdraw the money tax free.

Active Duty Military members and other government employees can also contribute to a similar account called a Roth-TSP. The government rolled out this plan in 2012.

      What is the Roth-TSP?
      • It is a retirement/savings plan offered by the United States Government
      • It is funded from money that comes out of your paycheck
      • You can contribute up to $18k per year
      • This money can be withdrawn tax-free when you retire

My Experience With The Military Disney Discount

We just returned from a trip to Disneyland in California. I hadn't been since I was eight year old. I'm now 28, married with one kid and one of the way. We took advantage of the military discount while we were there and it was awesome!!

      Here is my experience....
      What is the Military Discount?
      • At Disneyland in California, it is a 3-day hopper pass for $132 per person ($41/day). The military member can get up to 6 tickets (including himself) at that rate. I got a ticket for me, my wife, her parents and two sisters. So we maxed out the deal and got all 6 tickets.
      • At Walt Disney World in Florida you get a 4-day hopper pass for $177 per person ($44/day)

How do I get the pass?? Here are 4 easy steps
